Lower Advanced

("Mitkadmim Aleph")

The purpose of the course is to enable the students to improve their reading and analysis of academic articles written in English.  Students are introduced to the structure of different academic genres and acquainted with the phraseology and vocabulary used in academic writing.

 Amongst the strategies taught are recognizing the structure of a text, identifying the main ideas, the supporting evidence, and evaluating the strength of the writer’s arguments.

Students are introduced to the academic language required to formulate written and verbal responses to ideas found in texts or heard in academic talks.

Course requirements:

Attendance is compulsory.  Insufficient attendance will result in the student being dropped from the course.

The final grade for the course is composed of a class grade (60%) and the final exam (40%).

The class grade is comprised of exams, quizzes and homework.  A minimum 60% class grade is a prerequisite for taking the final exam.  In addition, students must have a minimum grade of 60 in the final exam and an average grade of 70 to pass the course.
